My local pub got stuck up!!!
Two men were slashed with machetes when they tried to stop a bunch of guttless thugs from robbing my local pub.
One local required surgery for a serious arm wound after joining a fight against the group of five balaclava-clad creeps, who used machetes in a raid on the Minto Mirage Hotel in Sydney’s south-west, at about 8pm on Wednesday night.
Police said six of the hotel’s patrons had armed themselves with pool cues and grabbed a baseball bat from behind the bar when they took it upon themselves to try to stop the robbery.
"It was just spontaneous. They tried to protect themselves and the people from the hotel and challenge those who were committing the robbery," said Macquarie Fields Superintendent Stuart Wilkins.
"After that a melee commenced in the hotel … it was a significant fight." police reported.
The bandits had threatened the hotel’s manager and demanded cash from the bar safe before they were attacked by the group of angry drinkers.
Supt Wilkins said one of the bandits was struck on the arm with the baseball bat before the group fled with a small amount of cash.
Two of the hotel patrons, aged 32 and 35, suffered deep lacerations when they attacked the bandits and were cut with the machetes.
The 32-year-old was released from hospital on Wednesday night while the 35-year-old was to undergo surgery for a serious arm wound on Thursday.
Supt Wilkins said he could not condone the drinkers’ actions and warned people against taking the law into their own hands.
"It is important that you allow the police to do their job," he said.
"If someone is armed and attempts to attack you or take your personal property you should give that over, do as you are told, and then contact the police."
Police are searching for up to five piss weak thugs of Indian or Islander appearance in connection with the robbery.
They have canvassed the local area, taken fingerprints at the hotel and were reviewing closed circuit television footage seeking to identify the thieves, Supt Wilkins said.
Twenty witnesses were being questioned by police.
